Julia Kelly is author of the upcoming historical novel The Dressmakers of London, which is due out from Gallery Books on February 18, 2025. The book details the story of two estranged sisters who reunite after they jointly inherit their mother's London dressmaking shop during WWII.
Lets meet with Julia directly from London, England, on her historical research about "fashion on the ration" in Britain during the war, as well as her own interest in making and slow fashion

Couture Details Using Heirloom Techniques
Kandi Christian Heirloom techniques aren't just for christening gowns and baby clothes. Come learn to use these great techniques to add just the right couture detail to any garment or home decor item. You’ll learn that many techniques in couture and heirloom are the same, but have different names. You'll explore using Madeira Appliqué, gimp work, 1/4 in tucks and much more to create interesting detail on pockets, lapels, hems and more. 3 hour in-person class 12noon - 3pm Saturday, April 5, 2025 Victory Park Recreation Center multipurpose room 3 2575 Paloma St Pasadena CA 91107 Bring your sewing machine to this hands-on class and learn how to add couture details to your projects using heirloom sewing techniques. Kandi L. Christian, MBA is a well-known and popular teacher of classes both in the USA and England. She is a licensed Martha Pullen instructor and has been an educator for several sewing machine companies. She is an expert sewist as well as an effective and entertaining instructor.
In addition to writing articles for magazines such as Sew Beautiful, Designs in Machine Embroidery, Sew News, Threads and Creative Machine Embroidery. Kandi has also written 17 books on sewing and the business of sewing and teaching. She was also tapped by the BBC to be their expert seamstress for their TV show “While You Were Out.” She has been a featured speaker at many trade shows and conferences including ASG national conference and Sew Expo in Puyallup, WA. Kandi is passionate about sharing her knowledge and enthusiasm for art of sewing.
