Community Service News
ASGLA supports our community by sewing for others. Our main focus is on foster kids. We like to sew for our foster kids as a way to show them that someone cares about them. They can have something unique, made by a person who took the time to sew a one-of-a-kind item to let them know they are valuable.
The 2 organizations we work with are Foster Children’s Resource center in Northridge, serving the San Fernando and Santa Clarita Valleys, and Project Santa Claus, serving kids in San Bernardino County.
Our foster organizations are currently requesting more clothing in children’s sizes 2 through 8, and pillowcases for boys. When sewing for the kids, please also don’t forget to sew some in the plus sizes, as kids come in all shapes.
This year we are also reaching out to folks in some of the areas hit by natural disasters. As we get more info, we will keep members updated as to how they can help.
We have one NG (Neighborhood Group) that focuses entirely on community service sewing - the Glendora NG.
Check out their info in the NG section of this website.
Donations - Smaller donations can be given to a CAB member or brought to any ASGLA event. For larger donations - lots of boxes, machines, supplies, etc., please email Sue Vite or myself to arrange pickup.
We can use fabric suitable for children's/youth clothing - minimum 1 yard. We are always happy to receive 1/2” to 3/4” wide elastic, which gets put into skirt and pants waistbands.
Thanks!
